Porcelain Veneers

Beautiful smile with porcelain veneersPorcelain veneers are sometimes referred to as porcelain laminates or dental veneers and are paper thin, custom-made porcelain "shells". These shells are made to cover the existing tooth structure to improve the appearance of such. This can be done due to the configuration of the veneer that is designed to perfectly cover just the front of the tooth offering a flawless appearance.

Porcelain veneers are capable of completely reshaping not only the tooth itself, but the entire smile, as they work to improve the appearance of misshapen, discolored and misaligned teeth. Though durable, you can expect – as is true with most all dental restorative solutions – that the veneers will eventually need replacement.

Reasons for Dental Veneers – What Will They Fix?

Porcelain veneers can fix a variety of cosmetic issues. Most commonly though they are used to:
•  Fix or reshape a chipped or broken tooth
•  Restore teeth that have become worn down
•  Reshape misshapen teeth (perhaps those that are "pointy")
•  Cover teeth that are excessively stained or discolored
•  Fill in gaps or spaces between teeth
•  Give a more even appearance to teeth that are misaligned or uneven

What Does the Process of Getting Porcelain Veneers Involve?

The process of getting porcelain veneers will take two visits to Preferred Dental Care Center. At the first visit, you will consult with Dr. Nicholas Grasvik to ensure that veneers are the most viable solution for your cosmetic concerns. During this same visit – should you and Dr. Grasvik agree that porcelain veneers will be the best restorative option for you – you will be fitted for your veneers.

•  The first step of the process involves explaining to Dr. Grasvik what it is that you desire in your new smile. Once he has a full understanding of your desires, he will proceed to take x-rays of the teeth to be covered. After evaluating the x-rays and health of the existing teeth, Dr. Grasvik will discuss a dental plan with you that may include any limitations, should there be any found.
•  A small amount of enamel will be removed from the surface of the tooth or teeth to be restored, just enough to allow room for the veneer to attach. Once the enamel has been removed to Dr. Grasvik's satisfaction, he will then take impressions of the area to be covered. At this point, together with Dr. Grasvik, you will select the shade and shape of your new teeth. Because it is necessary to send off the impressions for fabrication of the veneers, it will be necessary to place temporary veneers in the meantime.
•  You will return to Preferred Dental Care Center after the permanent veneers have been received for fitting and placement of the final product. During this visit, Dr. Grasvik will thoroughly clean the teeth with a special solution that helps to achieve a durable bond.

After a quick clean up followed by a bite test, you will be ready to go! Dr. Grasvik will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for your new veneers, which will be essential that you follow to prolong the life of your new beautiful smile!
