Replacing Teeth With Dentures
Beaverton, OR

Man with dentures enjoying the outdoors.Your teeth do many things for you. In addition to the obvious function of assisting you in chewing your food, your teeth are necessary in speaking correctly and in maintaining the shape of your facial structure. To this end, if you have lost your teeth and are unsure what your options are, dentures are an affordable choice to consider.

How are dentures constructed?

When you are having a set of complete dentures created for you we will measure your mouth and create a plastic pink base that mimics the look of your gum tissue. Attached to this plastic base will be a set of white teeth for use in chewing, speaking, and retaining the shape of your facial structure.

Dentures are removable for cleaning and sleeping; in addition, because they do feel differently in your mouth then your regular teeth would, some people remove them during the day for the sake of comfort.

What can I expect when I get dentures?

If you have both an upper denture and a lower denture, you need to be prepared for a lifestyle change. There are a number of good products on the market that will help keep your dentures in place; nevertheless, there are certain types of food that you will probably not be able to eat without a great deal of difficulty.

The change will not be as radical for you if you are only having your upper or your lower teeth replaced by a denture. An upper denture is usually more comfortable than a lower denture; having said that, adjusting to life with either one will take some time.

What other options do I have?

Because of advances in dental technology one option that is now available is the option of having two dental implants installed in your jaw. These implants can act as anchors for a full denture. We can attach the denture plate to the anchor implants and, in so doing, improve the stability and comfort of wearing the denture. This option is even available to people who may have already been wearing dentures for a number of years.

What are the advantages of dentures?

A full denture is significantly cheaper than a full set of dental implants. In addition, because the denture is removable, it is somewhat easier to engage in dental hygiene practices. Further, if time is an issue for you, it will always be faster to get a full denture as opposed to dental implants.
