There are a lot of dental veneer myths out there, so it is important that you are able to separate the fact from the fiction.

Myth: You Only Need One Dental Visit to Get Veneers

Unfortunately, veneers aren't an instant solution to your smile, and having them placed will take at least two dental visits. First, you'll need to make sure you are a good candidate and have a mold taken of your mouth. This mold is used to make your veneers, and you'll have to return a second time to have them placed.

Myth: My Veneers Will Last Forever

Veneers are durable and long-lasting, but they don't last forever. If you care for them properly, you could get about 12 years of life out of them before you need to have them replaced.

Myth: If I Lose My Teeth, Veneers Can Replace Them

Veneers are not intended to replace missing teeth, nor are they able to do that. Veneers are shells that go over the existing teeth, and while they may be able to correct teeth that are chipped or slightly crooked, they can't serve as an entirely new tooth.

Myth: Veneers Will Cover All of Your Teeth

It is certainly possible to place veneers on all of the teeth, but chances are good that you won't want to. Most dentists recommend that their patients simply restrict their veneers to the front teeth, as the premolars and molars won't be seen well anyways. If you are concerned about them matching, you can always have your back teeth whitened.
