4 Ways to Tell if You Have Bad Breath

Posted on 2/20/2016 by Nic Grasvik
A woman suffering from chronic bad breath. You've got a big job interview scheduled in a half an hour, and suddenly it hits you - you just had a tuna fish sandwich with onions for lunch! Your breath is probably horrible, but how will you know for sure? Try one of these techniques to determine if you have bad breath so that you can nip it in the bud if a foul odor is seeping out of your mouth.

Ask Someone that You Trust

The easiest and fastest way to find out the status of your breath is to ask someone. While this might not be a fun job for the person on the receiving end, you will get a quick answer, giving you time to fix the problem if necessary.

Use a Kit for Breath Testing

You need to plan ahead for this one, but there are new bad breath testing kits that can help you to easily test your breath. These can be good options if you don't feel right about asking someone if your breath is bad and you need a reliable opinion. Consider investing in a few of these and keeping them in the glove compartment of your car for emergency breath testing situations.

Cup Your Hand

One of the most popular methods, cupping your hand around your mouth and then breathing out can give you a great idea about the status of your breath. Always assume that your breath is a little worse than what you are smelling, as we tend to get used to our own odors.

Use a Tongue Scraper

If you have a tongue scraper, scrape the back of your tongue and then smell the tool. If the smell is offensive, it is safe to say that your breath is in need of some help.

If you have chronic bad breath, it is important to seek out help. Contact us to set up an appointment.
