Reasons you Should not Ignore Dental Sensitivity

Posted on 8/25/2015 by Nic Grasvik
A woman suffering from sensitive teeth. If you suffer from sensitive teeth when you consume hot or cold food/drink, you should come see us right away. Oftentimes, it is a result of brushing your teeth too hard, eating excessive amounts of acidic foods, or gingivitis. In other cases, however, it can be a result of a more serious issue, which means that you must come in to see us before the problem gets worse and you end up suffering. A few problems that can cause sensitive teeth include:

•  Cracked or fractured tooth
•  Damaged tooth restoration, such as implant, bridge, or dental crown
•  Excessive dental decay

Each of these issues need to be addressed not only in order to stop the dental sensitivity, but to ensure the overall health of your mouth.

If you leave a fractured tooth untreated, it could cause more severe issues down the road, forcing you to lose the tooth altogether, which would mean you would need a dental restoration to replace the tooth. If existing restorations are damaged, they can lead to infection or difficulty with chewing, talking, and smiling.

Each of these problems can become a real issue for you down the road. This is why it is necessary to come see us if your sensitive teeth do not subside with the use of a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth; a change in your oral hygiene habits, such as brushing lighter; and a slight change in the amount of acid you consume in your diet.

If you are dealing with sensitive teeth, please call us for an appointment today!
