The Benefits of the Intraoral Camera

Posted on 6/11/2015 by Nic Grasvik
Intraoral Camera Digital Image TechnologyWhen you come in for a traditional checkup, sometimes a closer look is needed inside your mouth than the traditional manual exam can do. Thanks to the advancement in technology, we have the capability of using an intraoral camera, which gives us a closer look inside your mouth. The camera is about the size of a standard pen and uses disposable covers for each patient. The camera is able to be maneuvered around your mouth easily by our staff, giving us a full view of every area of your mouth.

Makes Diagnosis Easier

One of the largest benefits of the intraoral camera is the ability to detect issues early on. It is as if we were using x-rays in your mouth at every appointment, although we are not. The camera gives a view of even the tightest areas in your mouth that would not have been seen with the naked eye. This means that issues that would have not been caught until they progressed further and were more obvious are now being caught early. This allows for early and less invasive treatment.

Makes Education Easier

The results of the intraoral camera can be directly viewed on a screen. This means whatever we see, you can see at the same time. This makes it very easy for our dentists to talk to you about what is going on in your mouth in a very impactful way. We are able to show you directly what is going on rather than resorting to the old method of pencil and paper, drawing you a picture and hoping that you understand what we are trying to show you.

Faster Treatment

When we are able to look at the findings of what is going on in your mouth together, we can discuss treatment options right there. This makes it a team effort when determining how to cure the issue going on inside your mouth. We are able to give you options and help you understand what is going on at any given time. This helps our patients feel like a part of a team rather than being told what to do and feeling pressured to undergo treatment that they may not understand.

Easy to Transfer Records

If the issues that we find while using the intraoral camera are something that will need to be referred to a specialist, we can easily provide you with printed pictures of the problem. This makes it very easy for the next professional to understand what is going on without putting you through further x-rays or exams. They can see for themselves what we saw and help you come up with the appropriate treatment right away.

The intraoral camera is a great way to enhance the service we provide our patients. It provides our patients with greater education and better exams. With the ability to discuss your options with you right there, you also get to save time. In the past, you would have to wait for x-ray results and time for a consultation. With the technology available to us today, however, we are able to do everything at once. This means that you are able to get on with your daily life while still taking good care of your oral health. The intraoral camera offers the best of both worlds and is a great way to ensure that you are getting the best dental health care possible.
