Partial Dentures
Beaverton, OR

A man showing off his seemless partial dentures. When you are missing some—but not all—of your teeth there are a few options available to restore the look, feel, and function of your complete set of teeth. Some of the more expensive options are bridges—appliances which are permanently affixed in your mouth by attaching them to an anchor tooth on each end—and dental implants (artificial teeth which are attached to metal sockets anchored in the jawbone itself).

If you are looking for an alternative that will allow you to eat and speak as if you had your full set of natural teeth and yet will be friendly to your budget you may want to consider partial dentures.

What is a partial denture?

A partial denture is used when you are missing some of your teeth. We can construct a plate that is inserted into the missing area; to this plate will be attached artificial teeth to replace the ones that you are missing. A partial denture may be removed for cleaning and sleeping.

The partial denture is held in place in your mouth by using metal clasps or wires to attach it to the teeth on either side of the gap. Because of the way in which it is affixed to your remaining teeth, it tends to be more stable than a traditional full set of dentures. In addition, a partial denture is usually more comfortable to wear than a full set of dentures.

Depending on your situation, that the metal clasps or wires used to hold the partial denture in place may be visible when you speak or smile. However, there are a number of options available which may be used in place of these metal wires for clasps. If this is an option that interests you, be sure to bring it up the next time you visit us and we can explore whether one of these actions would work for you.

Is a partial denture right for me?

Although a partial denture is an economical choice, it is not the best arrangement for every person. There are a number of things to consider, chief of which is the health of your gums and the condition of the teeth on either side of the gap that you need to have filled.

When evaluating the possibility of a partial denture it is important to take into consideration the health of your remaining teeth and the likelihood of any or all of them being lost in the near future. If it is reasonable to believe that you will lose the teeth used to anchor the partial denture then this option would probably not be the best choice for you

Come see us and we can help you to determine whether a partial denture is the best choice for you. We believe in open and honest communication with our patients and we will speak with you candidly about the various options you have and the pros and cons of each choice. So give us a call today at (503) 610-0114 and we can setup an appointment to talk about your options!
